The Xerxen Death Cult
a small but important quasi-religion:
This religion was founded several hundred years ago, by a Skuulgard tyrant. He had one of his most trusted subordinates, who went by Xerxen, make a pact with a spirit, in order to destroy the enemies plottong against him all throghout the nobility. This cult was formed by convincing the members of an assassins guild that Xerxen was the chosen of the god of death, and that by following him, they could gain some of his powers over death. Dark magic rituals, combined with possession, enabled the cult to become the most feared hand of the tyrant. Up until he realized that they were a threat to him as well, and tried to put them down that is. Now they are a freelance guild once again, and greatly feared by those who know of them, not least because of the number of pieces the tyrant wound up in along with 50 of his most skilled guards. They never could identify(or seperate) most of the bodies. No one knows exactly what sort of rituals are used, every witness is either a high level member, or very dead. Whatever they are, they do seem to convey a great deal of power on the recipients, but the few corpses recovered when one is somehow killed, are twisted, often beyond recognition.
